Zsh version 3.1.1 (beta) has been released!
-------------------------------------------
This release supports dynamically loadable binary modules on systems which
have the dlopen/dlsym interface. You have to give the --enable-dynamic
option to configure if you want to try dynamic loading. This will compile
zle and the compctl builtin into a loadable module. You have do `make
install.modules' before starting zsh otherwise it will be unable to find
the zle module. If zsh complains about unresolved symbol upon startup, try
to add the line comp1 to Src/modules-bltin and recompile zsh.
Dynamic loading is only tested on Linux-elf, Solaris-2.5.1 and SunOS 4. On
SunOS 4. On SunOS 4 zsh only works after adding the above mentioned comp1
line to Src/modules-bltin.
Modules can be loaded with the zmodload builtin. Two new modules are
provided: a files module containing rm, rmdir, mkdir, ln, mv and sync
builtins, and the clone module which can be used to clone zsh on a new
terminal. For example on Linux the clone /dev/tty2 command duplicates zsh
on the second virtual terminal (of course that only works if there are no
other processes using the same terminal).
The other big change is the new documentation format. Thanks to Andrew
Main the complete zsh documentation is now written in yodl. Yodl is a
document language somewhat similar SGML which can generate the nroff
manpages and the texinfo manual from the same source. The precompiled
nroff and texinfo manuals are included in the distribution but if you would
like to add something, you need to get yodl-1.14 (earlier versions had some
serious bugs). Yodl is available from ftp://ftp.icce.rug.nl/pub/unix/ and
from the sinsite Linux arcives.
The latest production release is still zsh-3.0.2 which have some known
serious bugs. Zsh-3.0.3 will be released soon. A test release is
available as a patch to zsh-3.0.2 in testing/zsh-3.0.3-test4.diff.gz on the
ftp sites.
The latest release, the zsh FAQ and documentation is available from the
following anonymous ftp sites. The first is the official archive site.
The rest are mirror sites which are kept frequently up to date. The sites
marked with a star may mirror ftp.math.gatech.edu instead of the primary
site.
