Pruned history

Hi,

I often see that my zsh history get pruned down to about 20 or 30 last
lines when I start a new zsh. This is very annoying as I often use
history to get stuff done.

The only way to get back the history is to restore it from backup and
`fc -R ...; fc -W`. But that way I loose the history from today.

Is there any I can do to prevent that annoying pruning? My relevant
settings are as following:
HISTSIZE=1200
HISTCHARS='!^#'

I seen that mostly with accounts that I use with ssh like remote root or
remote account. But I seen it at least once with a local account that I
use via xterm.

Regards
   Klaus
