I don't think it ever exactly did: "export" became a synonym for
"typeset -xg" when the -g flag was introduced, and before that the "-x"
flag was kludged (though I can't remember exactly how, i.e. whether
"typeset -x" was then equivalent to "export" --- I've a vague feeling it
was).
