One more thing about the choice of syntax: I don't think it'd be a good
API for -w to mean "Set $WIDGET" and for -l to mean "Don't set
$LASTWIDGET". Nobody will remember which of the two is the "Do" and
which is the "Don't".
With -f we can have longer, descriptive names.
