yash maintainers agreed that this is a bug, which is now fixed
<https://osdn.net/projects/yash/ticket/46224>.

Hopefully zsh can follow suit (and perhaps we can raise this with POSIX
folks). I'd be happy to try for a patch, but I'm not at all familiar
with zsh's code...
